Dave Matthews Band to take touring hiatus, will not perform in 2011

May 19, 2010 by · 2 Comments

Dave Matthews Band has announced that they’ll be taking all of 2011 off after twenty consecutive years of heavy touring. The band has made it clear that they “look forward to returning to the road in 2012″ meaning that this is not any kind of a breakup, but rather merely an extended break. The band had continued to tour even after founding member Le Roi Moore passed away in late 2008 (even performing without him on the day that he died, in an emotionally charged show at the Staples Center in LA), and released new album Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King in 2009.

Meanwhile, Dave Matthews Band still has a very large number of tour dates remaining in 2010, so fans in various cities will have plenty of time to see DMB in concert again this year before having to wait til 2012.

Bret Michaels says he’ll be performing next month

Good news to report on the Bret Michaels front, as the Poison lead singer has apparently told one of his hospital guests that he intends to return to the stage by next month. While the claim could be overzealous on Bret’s part, just the fact that he’s turned his attention back to his singing career, is an encouraging sign. Before being struck with a brain hemorrhage, which has had him in the hospital since last week, he had been gearing up for the release a new album with the Bret Michaels Band.

V.V. Brown, the rising UK pop star whose February digital release of her debut album Travelling Like The Light has boosted her U.S. profile to the extent that she was invited to perform her hit single “Shark In The Water” on The Ellen Show this past week, has announced a handful of headlining tour dates including New York City’s Bowery Ballroom on April 28th, UC San Diego on May 10th, The Troubadour in Los Angeles on May 12th (editor’s note: this is a tiny venue, start working to get tickets now if you hope to attend), and finally at the Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis on July 10th.

For those who still love their CD collection, Travelling Like The Light finally comes out in physical format this Tuesday, April 20th. Beatweek spoke with V.V. Brown about her album earlier this year; you can read the full interview here.

Carlos Santana to play Summerfest

Carlos Santana will be headlining this year’s Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 1st as part of the nation’s largest annual music festival. The performance will come amidst Santana’s 2010 Universal Tone Tour, along with his ongoing Hard Rock residency at The Joint in Las Vegas.

Santana spoke with Beatweek Magazine last year about his Vegas residency: “I’m having fun hanging around with me no matter where I am now. So it could be Las Vegas, a parking lot, I mean I’ve seen Bob Marley, he played in front of Tower Records in San Francisco, same thing with Traffic. So I said damn, you know, if they can play in the streets.”

Carlos also told Beatweek about his experiences as a new iPhone user, why he launched a Santana iPhone app, maintaining the energy level of his live shows, and why he feels younger now than he did when he performed at the original Woodstock, because “I’m not with fear.”

David Gray, Ray LaMontagne to tour

March 31, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

In one of the more interesting pair-ups slated for summer touring in 2010, David Gray and Ray LaMontagne have announced plans to co-headline sixteen tour dates. David Gray, who appeared on the cover of Beatweek Magazine in January, recently released Draw The Line, an album which produced lead single Fugitive, giving the singer-songwriter his biggest single since his early hit Babylon. Ray LaMontagne, after releasing Gossip in the Grain in late 2008 and seeing it debut at #3 on Billboard and #1 in iTunes, is in the midst of working on his fourth album which is expected to be released later in 2010 (no word yet whether it will be released prior to the tour dates).

Fans looking forward to the tour will have to be patient, however, as it doesn’t kick off until August 15th in Maryland.
