Britney Spears Femme Fatale sees Christina Aguilera, Jordin Sparks praise
March 29, 2011 by Beatweek · Leave a Comment
The new Britney Spears album Femme Fatale is, predictably, atop to the iTunes charts today on its day of release. But while Brit’s long awaited comeback record isn’t surprising anyone by selling well, some of the praise coming in for it is coming from surprising corners. Christina Aguilera, who has long been a Britney rival (at least professionally speaking, as the two were often compared to each other in their early career years), hopped on Twitter this morning to publicly tout Britney’s new record: “Hey @BritneySpears Congrats on Femme Fatale release! Can’t wait to see what you bring in the next video. xo – Xtina”
Two hours later, Britney responded in kind: “Thanks @TheRealXtina. Can’t wait to watch you on your new show. Hope we get to hear that voice on The Voice. -Brit”
The praise for Femme Fatale came from other circles. Jordin Sparks, who once served as Britney’s tour support, also made her feelings toward the new album clear: “Just bought @britneyspears new album! WHOOOO! Such good memories being on the Circus tour!” Fans also appear to be on board with the record by not only pushing it into the number one spot in iTunes today, but also by giving an average iTunes rating of four and a half stars out of five. Femme Fatale’s release-day success was predictable after its first two singles, Hold It Against Me and Till The World Ends, both found popularity ahead of the album’s release.
Christina Aguilera plays Bionic laser tag at MTV Movie Awards
June 6, 2010 by Beatweek · Leave a Comment
Christina Aguilera performed the title track for her new album Bionic on tonight’s MTV Music Awards, thirty-six hours before the album is set to release. The futuristic, scifi-looking set of Aguilera’s performance at times resembled a game of laser tag and saw her arriving on a throne and spelling her own name repeatedly in case anyone had forgotten. The sheer number of vocal bleeps during the censored performance made one wish that the awards, which were being simulcasted on both MTV and VH1, had also been aired on HBO just so we could get a sense of what the heck she was talking about during all those mysterious bleep. Bionic will be released this Tuesday, June 8th.
Later, when Twilight New Moon was awarded best new movie, the censors more or less just gave up.
Bee Gees, Christina Aguilera, Hall and Oates, Michael McDonald crash Idol final
May 26, 2010 by Beatweek · Leave a Comment
The two hour Idol final took a familiar performance pattern, as one or more contestants would begin singing a famous song from an established artist, and then part way through it they would be joined by that artist. The drill saw the Bee Gees take the stage to collaborate with Siobhan Magnus and Aaron Kelly, while Michael Lynche was joined by the Doobie Brothers’ Michael McDonald in a case of dueling Michaels. Later, an ensemble of female contestants was joined by Christina Aguilera, who then performed solo, and the male contestants were joined by Daryl Hall and John Oates.
Christina Aguilera cancels U.S. summer tour ahead of Bionic release
May 24, 2010 by Beatweek · 2 Comments
Christina Aguilera has canceled her upcoming U.S. summer tour. Her official reason is that the tour is merely being postponed until 2011, but some sources claim that it’s due to insufficient ticket sales. Regardless of the actual reason, the surprising move comes a mere two weeks before the planned June 8th release of Aguilera’s new album Bionic, which is currently at #12 on the iTunes pop albums chart as a pre-order.
Christina Aguilera calls Lady GaGa a “newcomer”
May 16, 2010 by Beatweek · 3 Comments
Christina Aguilera has referred to fellow pop star as a “newcomer” and “really fun to look at” in the upcoming issue of Out Magazine, according to Perez Hilton, who has an advance copy of the issue and posted a page from the Christina interview online. Third parties have frequently compared Christina and GaGa over the past year and a half since the release of the latter’s debut album, often citing similarities in two stars’ styling and apparel. While Perez (who is a friend of GaGa) is livid over Christina’s comments, a perusal of the posted segment of the feature story (which is only one page of what appears to be a several page story) suggests that the GaGa comments represented on a small fraction of the overall interview. We’ll withhold judgment until we can see the comments in their full context.

Christina Aguilera has announced that her fourth studio album, entitled Bionic, will be released on June 8th. The album cover, which surrealistically renders her face with half of it replaced with something out of Terminator, with what appears to be a vinyl record for an eyeball, is pictured at left.
According to Aguilera, “I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective. I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don’t think anyone will expect.”
Lead single “Not Myself Tonight” will debut on her official website on March 30th, will hit radio April 5th, and will be available for purchase through iTunes on April 13th.
In other news, Aguilera has completed her first film, entitled Burlesque, which stars Cher, Stanley Tucci, and Kristen Bell and will be released in the fall.
Update: a fifteen-second sample of Not Myself Tonight has been posted to ChristinaAguilera.com. The up-tempo sample features a heavy synthetic backbeat.
