Review: Audioengine 5+ Bookshelf Speaker System

Beatweek Best Bookshelf Speakers for 2013
Most speaker systems which pass through our offices are aimed for use with computers, iPhones, or other mobile devices. But while the Audioengine 5+ can be used with all of the above, it’s been designed first and foremost as a bookshelf speaker system for your living room.
While they sit only about eleven inches high, the 5+ speakers pack an audible punch. Each of the two units has its own tweeter and subwoofer, and the result is one of the most natural-sounding stereo experiences I’ve ever heard from a small system. This may have something to do with the hand built bamboo casings (also available in black or white acrylic). But regardless of how Audioengine is getting there, the audio is phenomenal in both the high and low ranges.
The 5+ is an upgrade over the original 5 in that it includes a rear USB port (moved from the top) for charging mobile devices, additional audio connection ports, and a bundled remote control.
