The Mentalist season finale: Red John murder-death-kill splits fans

May 21, 2011   by

Forty-eight hours later, and the buzz surrounding Mentalist season finale is still palpable. Patrick John shot Red John dead in cold blood in public, and then went back to drinking his tea while contentedly awaiting to be arrested. And that’s on top of Van Pelt having to shoot her own fiance dead, although that turned out to be self defense as he was Red John’s mole and had just shot Lisbon. But Jane’s actions weren’t as clear-cut, and fall somewhere into the vague category which one particular movie once defined as murder-death-kill; reactions from fans have been across the board. Was it shocking? Was it justified? And was that character being portrayed by Bradley Whitford really Red John? Viewers-fans-readers have their say:

“It seems as if things have gotten way out of hand. Patrick killing someone just seems crazy but shows how RJ has caused him to become a totally different person in situations like this. He sounded like a lunatic when he sat, and then asked the terrified waiter for the bill. Jane is a compassionate man and wouldn’t act this way, he saw the fear in the girls eyes. All i can say os this seen was just crazy?”

“Has anyone else noticed that Van Pelt has only dated Risby and 2 killers in the entire history of The Mentalist??? I knew it was going to be him from the second he showed up, just because he was dating her!”

“Oh NO! Not Josh Lyman/ Bradley Whitford… He has certainly been doing some characters way out of his comfort zone recently.’sarah Silverman”  ’Good Guys’, ‘In Plain Sight’  Guess he really is tired of playing a smart guy in a suit!  Come on BW.. get back in a series……playing the guy we love to love!”

“Patrick has killed a man and its going to have a huge aftermath.”

Here’s more on the Mentalist season finale.

It was Red John and he was carrying a concealed weapon which he threatened Jane with.  He can be linked back to O'Loughlin via his cell phone and O'Loughlin executed two uniformed policemen.  Jane will be tried and the verdict will be justifiable homicide.

In many states it would be justifieable homicide.  RJ was going to kil again.  He is a threat to lives of the general public, and he would not have gone quietly if Patrick tried to arrest him.  Since he is in Cali they probably would charge him with murder since the only criminal they dont like is a Christian.

Personally I loved it :)
