SNL tonight: host Dana Carvey, Linkin Park music, and Justin Bieber
February 5, 2011 by Beatweek
Dana Carvey is set to ham it up in Saturday Night Live tonight, and no, this isn’t a repeat from 1986. The SNL veteran is taking over host duties tonight after having last been a cast member in 1993. Carvey will be joined by a musical guest in Linkin Park which wasn’t yet a band back in Carvey’s SNL days, and according to various corners, a “surprise” guest in the form of Justin Bieber who wasn’t yet born at that time. Linkin Park, fresh off the release of their new album A Thousand Suns late last year, will be the official musical guest (look for current radio hit “Waiting For The End” to be amongst the setlist). Bieber, who was the musical guest last year during an episode hosted by another SNL alum Tina Fey, popped up in sketches during that episode. Apparently he’ll be pulling a fast one tonight by slipping into one or more unannounced sketches, or at least much of his fan base is convinced of such an appearance at this point.
No word on which if any of his classic SNL characters Dana Carvey will opt to reincarnate this evening, as his classics have included The Church Lady (timeless), Ross Perot (who was also last relevant in the early nineties), and Garth from Wayne’s World. If Mike Myers makes a surprise appearance tonight for that last one, it could upstage the Justin Bieber appearance. Then again, Bieber wasn’t yet born when the first Wayne’s World movie was released either. Here is Beatweek’s late 2010 interview with Linkin Park.
