Google John Lennon logo is best effort since Google Pac-Man

John Lennon would have turned seventy tomorrow, and Google is getting in on the act early by changing its homepage logo to one which features the late music legend. But the company has gone beyond merely inserting a sketch of Lennon which positions his glasses as the “oo” in Google, as the “e” is a play button which offers a thirty-second animation dedicated to Lennon as well, before defaulting to Google search engine results for John Lennon.
The Lennon tribute is arguably the most creative Google has been with its logo, which is often artistically altered to reflect world events and occasions, since the company turned its logo into a playable game of Pac-Man earlier this year. That was to mark the iconic game’s thirtieth anniversary, and the free game proved to be so popular that Google is still offering it at google.com/pacman to this day.
John Lennon changed the face of music forever with his band The Beatles, and later as a solo artist. This year will also mark the thirtieth anniversary of his death.
The question for Google, as today slips into tomorrow, is just how many people will see the John Lennon tribute; an increasing percentage of internet users now access Google search via a toolbar in their web browser, rather than visiting the google.com homepage.
