Ronnie James Dio died today. Ozzy Osbourne is still alive.

May 16, 2010   by

Ozzy Osbourne is still alive and well. On any other day that might sound like the opening line of a joke. But we’ve seen a disturbing number of people land on Beatweek.com today after hitting search engines with queries like “Is Ozzy Osbourne dead?” and “Did Ozzy die today?” – so we want to make it clear as possible that Ozzy is alive and well. The singer who died today is Ronnie James Dio, who took Ozzy’s place in Black Sabbath after Ozzy’s departure.

Not that the clarification should make fans of heavy metal any less sad, as the loss of Ronnie today is a major one. There’s no attempt at whimsy or comparison in this post, or anything beyond an attempt to help set the record straight for some folks who have clearly managed to somehow mishear or misinterpret today’s sad news – probably not helped by the fact that the news broke on a weekend. The confusion may have come from the fact that Ozzy did post a response regarding Ronnie’s passing today via Twitter.

the world im used to and so does many many other fans u touched .. just dont feel the same anymore without you manas a great legondary rocker known as Dio said: m/

Sucks that he died. I wonder if he still was into the Devil crap on his death bed.

He's probably kicking the Devil's ass with rock and roll as we speak.Wow, 67. 67 years old... and he was still at the top of his game.

what!!! man this sucks a rock and roll legend i can't believe he's gone.my prayers are with your family, you were a big part of my living thankyou ronnie james dio. YOU ROCK

My first rock painting of any kind was done on a four drawered dresser. It was painted all black and then in the middle of each drawer face was painted the raised rocker sign; extended first finger, extended little finger. The three remaining drawers were painted with the letters D, I, O, respectively in calligraphy writing. It was awesome. That was done in 1984 in honor of Ronnie James Dio. I have long lost that dresser drawer and with it some well loved memories. Today, I remember that dresser, and I remember an icon. Rest in Peace Ronnie James Dio. You're much loved and much missed.

I am truly sadden by the passing of an rock legend today. I loved his voice and music over the years. my thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and any children he may have had. I had been lost and yet was found, and I hope Ronnie was found as well !

I didnt know Dio was capable of dying :-(

he's not. he only spiritually ascends from one galaxy to another to spread his awesome rock to the people who need it.

I lift my pint to one of hard rock`s giants.

Ronnie, music has lost an Icon you will always be in our HEARTS, your masterful vocals in Blackmores Rainbow,Black Sabbath,Heaven and Hell and Dio will be forever missed R.I.P. The Holy Diver "God Bless You.

If wer evil or Divine wer the Last in line. Rest in Peace your still my hero

Fair warning: those posting dumbass "I wish so-and-so had died" hater comments will see those comments deleted and your IP addresses banned. The handful who've done so have been deleted and should be ashamed of themselves. Show some respect for the dead and the living.- Beatweek Management

Cock Muncher shut the fuck up! Its just as sad as if Ozzy would've died. They're both legends of metal and no one will ever forget them. RONNIE JAMES DIO, REST IN PEACE

Always Rocking And partyin. Rest in Peace Ronnie I wont forget the times we shared bro. :'(

By the way I am praying Jericho goes next.. should have been him instead of ronnie anyways :(

Rest in peace Ronnie... Thanx For The Great tunes!!!!!!

It's a shame that Dio died. He was always clean, sober, and never touched any drug in his career.Ozzy on the other hand was hopped up all the time and acted like a real jackass towards his fellow musicians. It would have been much better if Ozzy died instead.

The man on the silver mountain has left us behind with heavy hearts, take solace he has gone to his rainbow in the dark. His legend will live on RIP Dio

dio was amazing he was the best of all time

Why are all the good rockstars dying? Why can't drunken pieces of shit like Kesha die? Music (not that that girl even makes music, she makes horrible, stupid sound come out of her mouth, that is all, nothing more) would not miss her. There would be another just like her tomorrow to take her place, but there will NEVER and could NEVER be another Ronnie James Dio. A little man with a huge voice that will last forever. Ronnie, you will be missed.

Words cannot describe the loss that fans are feeling today. I mean, first Peter Steel (not that he was as iconic, but still leaves me with a very heavy heart and an indescribable shock) and now Dio? Dio? Really? Ronnie James Dio? What? Terrible. Just terrible.
