Despite SNL, Betty White still can’t beat out Betty Crocker

All eyes are on Betty White tonight as she gets set to host Saturday Night Live, and one would think that her recent resurgence into the realm of coolness would make her the most popular “Betty’ alive. But while that’s technically true, a Google search result reveals that she’s coming in second in total web searches for people with the same first name – to, all of people, Betty Crocker. That’s right, the eighty-eight year old star of The Golden Girls and Boston Legal is losing out out to the eighty-nine year old fictional character of the same name. Although most of the searches related to “Betty Crocker” appear to be centered around a pursuit of recipes rather than actual information about Betty Crocker herself (she was invented in 1921 to help sell General Mills products), it doesn’t change the fact that Betty White still has one more hurdle to climb in order to become the world’s most famous Betty:

There is good news, however, for Betty White: she’s beating out seventy-nine year old Betty Boop. We’ll see if her SNL hosting gig tonight will be enough to push her over the “Betty Crocker” hump.
