Spock no longer to be brought to you by Leonard Nimoy

April 25, 2010   by

Spock’s days as portrayed by Leonard Nimoy are over – and they ended on a high note. After the seventy-nine year old actor portrayed the elder Spock in last year’s critically acclaimed smash hit Star Trek movie which rebooted the entire franchise, Nimoy has announced that he has no plans to resurrect the role in the future. This leaves the role officially in the hands of Zachary Quinto, who also portrayed Spock for the majority of the 2009 film. It was already clear that the younger Quinto, also known for his portrayal of Sylar on Heros, would primarily be carrying the Spock role forward in the new film series, but Nimoy’s announcement brings to an end any hope of seeing him don the Vulcan ears one more cameo in the next movie.

Nimoy’s most recent acting appearance came in the role of William Bell on the FOX hit television show Fringe; here’s hoping his retirement from the Star Trek world won’t preclude him from reprising his infrequent role as the sometimes pivotal yet rarely seen Bell character.
