Augustana: Beatweek Artist of the Month for May 2011
May 1, 2011 by Beatweek
A year and a half of work on their third album has paid off for Augustana, whose self titled opus has topped the rock charts in the week following its release. The band previously best known for hit singles like Boston and Sweet And Low has come storming back with their first release since 2008, and as lead singer Dan Layus recently told Beatweek, this album is self-titled for a reason: it’s the band first album which turned out exactly as the band wanted it to.
Led by first single Steal Your Heart, the new Augustana album managed to bump the acclaimed new Foo Fighters release from the top spot on the iTunes rock chart, and has been hovering in the top ten overall since its release last Tuesday. But ultimately it’s the quality of Augustana’s self titled album, and not its popularity, which has led us to name the band our Beatweek Artist of the Month for May 2011.
