Review: Kensington Folio Trio Mobile Workstation for iPad 3 and iPad 2

Kensington’s Folio Trio Mobile Workstation does precisely what its name implies. It’s a zippered case which you can plop down on any flat surface and turn it into a makeshift desk. The internal iPad sleeve is just the beginning. Also inside are slots for paperwork and business cards, pens and pencils, and even a three ring metal binder.
The iPad sleeve offers a clever trick where through a velcro system you can lift it up to any angle you like and lock it into place. It also rotates ninety degrees so you can use the iPad sideways, and again, at any angle you like. Despite the simplicity of the system, I found that typing on the iPad in both modes was sturdy at the various angles I tried.
The catch here is that because the Folio Trio is designed to comfortably hold 8.5″ x 11″ paperwork and not merely an iPad, it’s noticeably wider and taller than other zippered iPad cases on the market (and about an inch thick when zippered shut).
This is clearly for the kind of traditional business travelers who still rely heavily on paperwork, with their iPad merely being one part of their workflow. But for that audience, the Folio Trio offers a lot.
