Griffin Crayola Lights, Camera, Color! HD iPad app: Beatweek 2012 Best of Show at CES

Some apps are just plain fun. Griffin Technology is best known for its serious hardware accessories like the iTrip. But the company’s partnership with Crayola has resulted in the Lights, Camera, Color! HD app for iPad which is aimed at kids but will likely see adults trying to get in on the fun. The app takes a picture of the user, removes all the color leaving only a black and white sketch, and allows the user to then fill back in the colors crayon-style in any way they like. Bunny ears, bow ties, and the like can also be added to the image, creating a final product which is still recognizable as being the user but with a cartoon-like quality.

The image shown here is actually that of one of Griffin’s employees who was working the booth and was kind enough to allow himself to be turned into a… whatever. The cool part is that unlike our hardware Best of Show winners, most of which won’t hit the market for months, the Lights, Camera, Color! HD app is already available in the iTunes App Store for $1.99. There’s also an iPhone version.
