How racist are conservatives against Obama? The #1 google image search suggestion is “Obama monkey”
August 26, 2012 by Beatweek
Conservatives swear up and down that their abject hatred of Barack Obama has nothing to do with his black skin or his Muslim-sounding name, but rather that they dislike his policies. Then they go on to make entirely fictional statements about his policies to try to make him look bad, unwittingly demonstrating that their hatred is in fact racially motivated and they simply don’t want to admit it out loud; they’ll latch onto any convenient negative lie they hear about him whether it’s plausible or not. But if that’s not proof of racism being a motivating factor of the hatred hurled Obama’s way, perhaps this is: try typing “Obama” into the Google image search, and “Obama monkey” is the first suggestion…
This isn’t Google’s fault. Search suggestions are based on what’s being searched for the most often by users. Those who support the president are unlikely to be searching for images of him at all; they know what he looks like. So the popularity of the “Obama monkey” image searches are instead coming from his detractors, who are ostensibly searching for derogatory images of the president to help fuel their dislike of him. And their most popular choice when it comes to searching for derogatory images of the nation’s first black president is to look for images which make him look like a monkey. I’m not sure whether the message they’re sending could be any clearer…
Perhaps the scariest part is that there are twenty million image results in which people who hate Obama have pasted his face onto the body of a monkey, or some other similar way of merging the president with an ape in an attempt to be humorous. Let’s see conservatives explain how this isn’t about the color of his skin, and how it’s supposed to have something to do with his policies. There are no lies they can tell, or excuses they can make, to try to explain this blatant expression of racism away.
